Recall Roundup: Faulty Wipers, Fuel Valves and Fuses

Ford is recalling certain Focus cars from the 2012 model year to correct potential problems stemming from a windshield wiper wiring harness connector.

In a document filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the car maker said vehicles it built from Aug. 1, 2010, through Oct. 18, 2011, may be missing a seal in a wiring harness connector for the wiper motor on the passenger side. As a result, water or other contaminants may get into the connector and cause the passenger-side wiper to stop working.

Ford said the recall includes 140,310 cars.

Under the recall, dealers will inspect the connectors, clean and seal them if necessary, and replace wiper motors that aren’t working. Ford said it expects to begin the recall about May 21. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332.

Chrysler Group LLC said it is recalling 1,689 Jeep Patriot and Compass crossovers built from Dec. 17, 2011, through Jan. 2, 2012. The company said some of the vehicles may have been manufactured with a damaged rollover valve in their fuel tank assemblies. If a rollover crash occurs, the faulty valve could allow fuel to leak, which would increase the risk of a fire.
