Volunteer Connection: Remember to reach out to others this holiday season
Thanksgiving is less than three weeks away and Christmas is only six weeks from now. You may have many of your "to do" items checked off your list, but there are many who will struggle to make ends meet.
Sadly, the victims of domestic violence sometimes flee with little more than the clothing on their backs.
You can "adopt" a Schuylkill Women in Crisis family for the holidays by donating gifts and holiday food items. Canned fruit, vegetables and cranberry sauce, gravy, instant mashed potatoes and rice, stuffing mixes, mixes for baked goods and packaged holiday cookies and candy placed in holiday-colored laundry or storage baskets would make great food baskets for those in need. You don't need to make complete basket yourself; any donation helps. Add a few toys, books or games and Santa will indeed visit displaced children.
If you'd like to help but don't have the funds to contribute financially, you can volunteer your time and maybe your talents for one of their holiday events. Call Mary Jo at 570-622-3991 for ask for donation suggestions, make delivery arrangements or to volunteer.
